Excellent job with your math! Impressive. I'm not sure, however, because even though my parents were illegal immigrants at one time, (they have since become naturalized citizens) my family has never received any form of government assistance. Isn't a requirement for most any government subsidized program a social security card? Like I said, I am not sure, but I would love to see an application for any of those programs you mentioned e.g., food stamps, housing, etc. etc. that does not require a social security number.
This math problem is not new. It was posted in many different forms over the years but the main point still holds true. Maybe you aren't aware, but identity theft is HUGE in this county and the buying and selling of social security numbers, falsified identification is rampant. If you have ever been to an Economic Security (Welfare) office, you will encounter low wage earning, low skilled entry level workers processing the paperwork, hence the majority of fake identifications are not even scrutinized or even given a second glance and it is years before the identity theft is realized.
